so, you want to be in advertising eh?

Well well, the Kancil Awards is just around the corner, and in conjunction with this glitzy affair, 4As is hosting a 2 day festival to recognize home-grown Malaysian creative excellence in advertising.

The Kancil Awards is Malaysia's award show for the members of the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents (4As). As glamorous and as anxiously anticipated as Hollywood's Academy Awards, the Kancil Awards have gained a reputation over the years for upholding a high international standard. It is acknowledged as Malaysia's largest, most prestigious advertising awards competition. Its importance is attested to by the active participation of the industry's creative leadership represented by creative heads who are award winners in their own right, here in Malaysia and at international creative shootouts. The work that wins at Kancil would probably win on a global scale (in fact sometimes, work that wins overseas doesn't quite come up to Kancil standard).

This year's Kancil Awards will be a two day festival:
Day 1 for ad agencies, and Day 2 for students.

On Day 1, Kancil Awards will feature a series of speakers from various industries who will talk about the theme 'Fearless'. With a fee of RM100, you could get yourself into the talk and indulge in seeing how top people of various industries THINK.

But what I'm going to share with you today will be an event on Day 2, where us advertising people/students/hopefuls/interestee? will get to participate in a workshop where they'll have the opportunity to work with Malaysia's top Creative Directors to crack a brief.

Well, all creative projects starts with a pre-determined purpose and direction. And in advertising, it's embodied in what we call a job brief. Come and join the workshop, where you'll get to test your understanding on prepping that golden award winning brief. Who knows, rubbing shoulders with the best in the industry might inspire you to your new-found greatness. ~wink wink

Unlike attending a talk, there will be a high level of interaction with the CDs. It is a rare opportunity for students to meet their potential employers and learn from the best in the industry.

See how they think, how they review work and what they think are great ideas. Question them, challenge them, and throw all that you have at them. The learning you'll get from this live experience will be rich, relevant and real.
