25 agencies were invited to submit proposals and be judged by Brazilian Football Confederation chairman Ricardo Teixeira, FIFA executive secretary Jérôme Valcke, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, architect Oscar Niemeyer, writer Paulo Coelho, singer Ivete Sangalo, and designer Hans Donner. The logo was unveiled last week in Johannesburg. Designed by Brazilian agency Africa, how ironic.

The winning design was “Inspiration”, created by Brazilian agency Africa. The design stems from an iconic photograph of three victorious hands together raising the world’s most famous trophy. As well as depicting the humanitarian notion of hands interlinking, the portrayal of the hands is also symbolic of the yellow and green of Brazil warmly welcoming the world to their country.

Out of those 25 and they chose this?! Sigh. From my personal point of view, the essence and substance is there but the execution and styling is kinda sloppy. Wonder what will ours look like and who will be the judging panel...mmmm.

Now take a look at this. Not the best of the best, but I found it a very neat job, original, corporate, honest and brazilian - and better than bloody the Gisele’s choice.

Adding the bangs on the first profile really helps in making this logo more contemporary, as the old profile, with the hair pulled back, made the girl too matronly. The perkier nose is cuter and the lips look a little less numb. The one thing that stands out more in this revision is the length of the necks, where they feel a little too stretched in this rendition by being so angular, whereas before the effect was diminished by the curvature. In terms of the shape of the trefoil itself, the update is a vast improvement with the new horizontal axis asymmetry, making it look more like a badge than a four-leaf clover. And as some of the executions below show, it makes for a very playful shape.

With his high-flying antics and his bravado in the ring, he is one of the crowds favourite with rousing ovation and cheers everytime he executes a stunning rapid sequences of holds and moves.

But alas, time has struck a cruel blow on him. Like many others before him, he is now a bit on the pudgy side - look at the video below. Being fat will make you look shorter...lol..
